It is given this name because the papules occur around the eyes, the nostrils, the mouth and occasionally, the genitals.<\/p>\n<p>The more restrictive term, perioral dermatitis, is often used when the eruption is confined to the skin in the lower half of the face, particularly around the mouth. It is less common in men. It may affect children of any age.<\/p>\n<p>People with periorificial dermatitis are often using opical or inhaled corticosteroids.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The cause of periorificial or periorificial dermatitis<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Epidermal barrier dysfunction<\/li>\n<li>Activation of the innate immune system<\/li>\n<li>Altered cutaneous microflora<\/li>\n<li>Follicular fusiform bacteria<\/li>\n<li>Unlike seborrhoeic dermatitis, which can affect similar areas of the face, malassezia yeasts are not involved in periorificial&nbsp;dermatitis.<\/li>\n<li>Periorificial dermatitis may be induced by:<\/li>\n<li>Topical steroids, whether applied deliberately to facial skin or inadvertently<\/li>\n<li>Nasal steroids, steroid inhalers, and oral steroids<\/li>\n<li>Cosmetic creams, make-ups and sunscreens<\/li>\n<li>Fluorinated toothpaste<\/li>\n<li>Neglecting to wash the face<\/li>\n<li>Hormonal changes and\/or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dermnetnz.org\/topics\/oral-contraceptive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oral contrac<\/a>eptives<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dermnetnz.org\/topics\/oral-contraceptive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-493\" src=\"https:\/\/acupuncturebyyan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/images-25.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Yan Zhang Acupuncture by Yan P.C.
