The most common type of eczema is known as atopic dermatitis, or atopic eczema. Garden City, NY, 11530\" width=\"239\" height=\"164\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The causes of eczema<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>From Western biomedical perspective<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The cause of eczema is unknown.<\/li>\n<li>The immune system reacts to an irritant, allergen or other offending substance, or even a phantom substance<\/li>\n<li>Hormone imbalances<\/li>\n<li>From a Chinese medicine perspective<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Imbalance in the body like stress, improper diet, toxin buildup, and other lifestyle and emotional factors. From a modern perspective, we also have to consider hormone imbalances and infection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>How does acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treat Eczema?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Restoring the natural balance of the body.<\/li>\n<li>Acupuncture and herbal medicine also help cool red, inflamed skin and stop itching.<\/li>\n<li>Using topical herbal medicine soaks can strongly stop itch, helping support acupuncture treatments between visits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Treatment Course<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>3 to 6 months of regular treatment with acupuncture and herbal medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Without herbal medicine, treatment will take longer.<\/li>\n<li>After eczema symptoms are resolved, I continue treatments for an additional 4 weeks or so to consolidate the treatments.
